2009 NBA Champs, LA Lakers

The Lakers bring home championship #15. Phil gets #10 (”X”), passing Red Auerbach for the most in league history. Kobe finally gets #4. And there were some loud chants at the victory parade of “Back To Back, Without Shaq!” There were also mostly smiling faces at Tool.

After a tough loss in game 3, the Lakers are looking to rebound tonight.

The fan’s wanted a sweep, I even painted my broom handle purple and gold, but I guess that will have to wait until next season. Tonight’s game must be another statement game, like the first game. The Lakers need to play with the defensive tenacity they showed in game 1 in order to win tonight.

I believe they will win tonight and then close it out on Sunday. The look in Kobe’s eyes tells me he wants a championship and he wants it now. But tonight’s game has to be more than just Kobe; Lamar, Fisher, Gasol, Ariza have to have big games and the bench needs to step up their game to give the starters some much needed rest.

Kobe will lead this team to the championship and I am looking forward to going to the parade in downtown LA next week.

2009 NY AICP PARTY

BK Kingon - June 3rd FWA

The Kingon Defense Academy website– with “Neon Nurple,” “Kingon Dance of Seudction,” “Dozarian Flat Tire” and the rest training films Geordie shot– was recognized by FWA in their June 3rd Selection of The Day. We believe it to be the first FWA winner that includes both nipple twisting as “an attack” and a “Planetary Divide,” a euphimism for kicking or being kicked in the nuts. Congratulations, Geordie.

Colonel Attar; One Badass Ape

During a night shoot for DIRECTV in Century City, Erich got to find out what it’s like to work with Plant of the Apes’ Colonel Attar (Michael Duncan Clarke), who is best known for saying, “Get your stinking hands off me, you damn dirty human!”

“He is great to work with,” Erich said, “He has a great presence and really makes Attar come alive. Even when you know it’s all makeup– at like 6′8″ in full Planet of The Apes combat gear– he can be pretty damn intimidating.”

Got Milk? Paranoia

At the CLIO 50, the Aaron Burr Got Milk? spot–that Erich was an art director on–received the CLIO Hall of Fame award, and then on Sunday, 3-time Indy 500 winner, Helio Castroneves, did the traditional winner’s circle guzzle of milk straight from the jug.

These events inspired the Tool office to open a fresh carton of milk on Monday.

A Run of A Lifetime For The Nuggets

Being a Nuggets fan is rough. Growing up in Colorado, the Nuggets always played second fiddle to the wildly popular and successful Denver Broncos. And I grew up watching this seemingly permanent underdog team battle the rest of the league and consistently fail to achieve, or even come close, to the greatness of the Lakers, Celtics and Bulls of that era.

But I always rooted them on, even with that never-ending underdog status that comes from having never even made it out of the first round of the playoffs in 25 years.

This season is different. Still with that underdog status, the Denver Nuggets have managed to hang tough with a heavily-favored LA Lakers team that has been to a whopping 29 Finals, compared to 0 for Denver.

Maybe it’s a Carmelo Anthony, maybe it’s the Pepsi Center, maybe it’s all the tats, but this team has given longtime Nuggets fans like myself something we’ve never really had, hope.

Go Nuggets, here’s hoping (and strongly predicting) this great series is heading to a Game 7.

A Leftover From BK Kingon Shoot

For Geordie’s Burger King Kingon shoot, we were given several Star Trek commemorative glasses. And while the Kirk, Spock and Nero glasses quickly disappeared right after the shoot, we have found ourselves left with an Uhura glass that we are unable to get rid of.

It would appear that, for some reason, even with a very dramatic picture of the Starship Enterprise flying over a strange, moon-like “Death Star” during some sort of potentially universe-ending firestorm, frosted Starship etchings and a sexy pictue of Uhura, it just isn’t enough to make this glass desirable.

It’s semi-mint and has the added collector value of almost being featured prominently in a Kingon Defense Academy training film about nipple twisting. (See the “Neon Nurple” spot.)

Lakers Take A Series Lead 3-2

Game 5 was one for the history books. Every quarter, leading into the 4th, ended in a tie score. Both teams battled hard and the refs actually let them play. In the end, the Lakers came out on top.

It was a combination of Kobe playing more of a decoy role and Lamar playing a lights out basketball game. When it came to crunch time, Kobe lead his team into the 4th quarter, taking the lead from a cold Denver team and they never looked back. Now the Lakers must march into Pepsi Center on Friday and close this series out. It’s going to be a tough game, but I think they can pull it off.

LET’S GO, LAKERS!
